Jesus, Prince of Peace

Merry Christmas! I hope you had a wonderful day enjoying all God’s blessings as you celebrated the birth of our Savior. We have one more title for Jesus to look at in Isaish 9 today.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6

Some days, I think this is the best title of all. When I accept the gift of Jesus and let him rule my life, I have peace in two wonderful ways.

First, I have peace with God. I’m no longer His enemy, but His daughter. I’m no longer fighting against my creator, trying to tell Him that I know better than He does and going my own way. (That was exhausting.) Instead, through Jesus, I have healing and reconciliation. (Colossians 1:20, 2 Corinthians 5:18)

There’s no longer a wall between me and my Father in heaven, a wall that was built by my sin and disobedience. Instead, I have access to the Father and confidence to go to Him whenever I’m in need (Ephesians 2:14; Hebrews 4:16, 10:19).

In all these ways and more, Jesus brings peace with God.

There’s more. Because of Jesus, I can also have the peace of God.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. - John 14:27 ESV

The peace of God helps me live calmly and joyfully in this crazy, broken world that’s not my home. This one is especially dear to my heart since I used to make myself crazy worrying about things and trying to plan for every possible outcome. I sometimes get overwhelmed by life and can temporarily lose that peace in my heart. Paul offers the solution to that in Philippians 4:

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7 ESV

How beautiful and wonderful to know Jesus, the Prince of Peace! This is something that those who have not accepted the gift of Jesus cannot understand, how I can be calm and not worry when life is going crazy. I'm so very glad that I met Him and let Him into my life all those years ago.

Think About: Is Jesus the Prince of Peace to you?
