Satisfaction for the Hungry

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

Matthew 5:6 ESV

So far, we’ve looked at recognizing our spiritual poverty, grieving over how our sin has separated us from God, and meekly submitting ourselves to Him. The fourth stage in our “be-attitude” progression is to hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Do you ever ache for the lost and oppressed people in the world? Do you ever long for someone to understand their own need for Jesus and to turn to Him? Do you hunger for God’s word and for His glory to be revealed?

That’s what hunger and thirst for righteousness mean to me.

"Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart."

Psalm 37:4 ESV

As I humbly submit myself to Jesus and commit to following the leading of His Spirit, my desires begin to change. I begin to want what He wants; I start wanting to please Him more than I want to please myself. I want everyone to know my wonderful Savior and what He has done for me.

And the more I spend time learning what His word says, the more I trust Him to help me make right decisions and to lead me throughout my life. The more I trust Him, the more people will see His light in me. Then someone might ask what’s different about me and I can answer, “It’s all because of Jesus.”

"Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday." - Psalm 37:5-6 ESV

Think About: Do you hunger and thirst for righteousness?
